Watch: NFL experts are unimpressed with Eagles

Even with an 11-6 record, the Eagles have been hard to watch this year but those who did see serious problems on both sides of the ball.

Brian Baldinger spent 13 years playing offensive line for the Cowboys, Colts and Eagles. These days he works as an NFL analyst and recently offered a scathing review of Philadelphia’s offense during an appearance on "Pardon My Take."

In the NFL, words like, “underwhelming” and “underprepared” are rarely associated with playoff teams, but fit when describing Philadelphia’s offense. Not only was the team outscored 182-123 in a 1-5 finish to the regular season but quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for under 200 yards in five of his last eight games.

Defensively, the team hasn’t done much better. Thanks to a top-ranked secondary, Philadelphia allowed the second-fewest yards per game (301.5) in 2022. This year, it allowed 356.1 yards per game, seventh-most in the league, and 25.2 points per game, third-most in the NFL.

These points didn’t escape Fox Sports’ Nick Wright who described the Eagles defense as “objectively terrible at everything.”

Philadelphia’s defense has fallen off this year, that’s undeniable, but to say the team is terrible at everything is not entirely accurate. The team’s 31st-ranked secondary has been dreadful, allowing 252.7 yards per game, but they’ve been much better against the run at 103.4 yards per game.

Among this year’s 14 playoff teams, only five (Detroit, Houston, Miami, San Francisco, Tampa Bay) have better numbers against the rush. It’s not much, but with the way the Eagles have been trending, they’ll take all the positive news they can get.

They’ll look to put it all together when the team travels to meet the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on Monday night.
